REDARC Electronics

"David Beckhams of the future ... You can't do it without skilled people."

Benefits of accredited electronics training for REDARC Electronics.

Improving our knowledge is essential for mastering Lean Manufacturing, Innovation, Automation and Cost Reduction.

We have 4 strategic aims:
  • Significant cost reduction through process innovation & continuous improvement;
  • Significant increase in automation;
  • Master the introduction of lean manufacturing;
  • Master new product innovation and commercialization.

We can't achieve these strategic aims without highly skilled people. Accredited electronics training, combining work and study - such as traineeships, gives us the people we need to succeed.

Essential to mastering Lean Manufacturing, Innovation,
Automation and Cost Reduction

Anthony Kittel, Managing Director of REDARC Electronics, explains: "We believe in combining electronics study and relevant work. We have traineeships at REDARC Electronics and we are considering commencing apprenticeships, too. We encourage new recruits to start traineeships, by suggesting they consider going to TAFE and developing new skills.

We also encourage mature age trainees - for example, Bob who works here is over 50 years of age and an ex-Mitsubishi employee. He is re-skilling himself via a Certificate II / III in Electronics at Regency TAFE.

We have some major objectives to achieve
  • Significant cost reduction through process innovation & continuous improvement;
  • Significant increase in automation;
  • Master the introduction of lean manufacturing;
  • Master new product innovation and commercialization.

To achieve these four objectives over three years we need skilled people. You can't do it without skilled people. This gives us the intellectual capacity to analyse and plan the execution of a strategy and achieve these results.

It means you encourage people to demonstrate initiative. They're empowered to pursue the strategy."

Improved knowledge leads to improved products

"We need future leaders at all levels. It doesn't mean they have to be a manager.

It's like soccer - we're drafting young people for our future team - David Beckhams of the future, for our industry.

For Australia to be competing on the world stage and for REDARC Electronics to thrive - there is only one significant advantage we have and that's knowledge. Knowledge equates to flexibility, adaptability in our people, adaptability in our processes and improved products."

Improved Staff Retention

"You've got this pipeline you are trying to fill - people moving up the food chain. You can retain people if you can provide them with a clear vision of where they're going and what opportunities exist. For example, someone might do an apprenticeship somewhere else and come and work for us and then go on to complete an engineering or other related degree. We let employees indicate what their passion is and we plan the direct route of how to get there with them. We would much rather develop our own people." said Anthony Kittel, Managing Director of REDARC Electronics.

Shane Wreford, Production Manager at REDARC Electronics, endorses this, saying: "Employers need to give employees time to do their study and show that they are prepared to invest in their future. In return you are looking for loyalty (improved staff retention rates)."

Attraction of Staff

Shane Wreford explains: "Bob, Matt and others have been attracted to our investment in them. The extra training has been an attraction factor. Bob is completing a Certificate III in Electrotechnology at Regency TAFE and Matt is completing a traineeship in the new year."

Addresses Skills Gaps

"We've got a skilled workforce being developed which helps fill the technical and soft skills gaps we have." says Shane Wreford.

"Employees can go along the operator's career path or branch out towards University qualifications. There are opportunities for a career path along the technical side or the people management side.

Undertaking an apprenticeship or traineeship is an ideal way to go into this industry. You have the opportunity to work alongside tradesmen/engineers and learn new skills at TAFE, put them into practice of work and learn from your mistakes with guidance.

It gives you the opportunity to work with all facets of the company, whether you have a passion for the product, engineering, or sales. You can go into any of those areas - it just depends on where your passion leads you."
